From the philosophy and practice of porridge emerges PoCo – Porridge Collective – where we are stronger together, doing small and thoughtful acts.We are an experimental studio, an artist run collective, a hub of mutual aid.We program and serve the public at the intersections of food, art, community, worldbuilding. We have a deep belief that food is art and food is culture. And most importantly, food is a gathering of community.

HELLO, FRIENDS!porridge + puffs (intentionally lower cased, common nouns, non-trademarked) started in 2014 as a material experiment of the ratio of liquid and grains that turned into a love letter to los angeles based on the community and ecosystem that was built for and around it. Conceptually, it was my dive into a thesis of materials that reflected culture, ancestral knowledge, environmental practices and a practice of craft and care.Well, a lot has happened since then. But the practice of porridge remains. The practice of experimenting with found material, studying it, understanding it, reflecting on it, using it as medium to intervene and question systems. Porridge is warm and nurturing, little grains gather to flow in between spaces, contracting and expanding, shapeshifting to whims. If I could do it again for the here and now, how and what shapeshifting would porridge look like?First and foremost, porridge is community.Porridge also happens to move a lot slower than me. But, I need that slowness, little by little, one by one, sharing and collaborating, nurturing experimentation, crafting with our hands and soul, activating systematic change, a feminist practice of gathering, a practice in reflection as much as doing. Porridge would be a collective.PoCo – Porridge Collective – seems to be a natural progression to share space, share work, mentor and practice with others.A year ago, I gathered our first cohort of members to present GATHER at the Feminist Center for Creative Work. Our goal is to continue building cohorts of members whom we collaborate and workshop with to create experimental public art including mutual aid projects. These artists and members then become a permanent part of our artist roster and advisory council, serving our public work.Thank you for supporting our collective and me on this new journey.Minh
